Metagenics, Inc., Gig Harbor, WA, has completed MetaProteomics, a nutri­genomics research center, on its functional medicine campus in Gig Harbor, WA. The first laboratory of its kind in the state of Washington and only the fourth in the U.S., MetaProteomics is expected to aid in the development of nutraceuticals derived from nutrigenomic research strategy. This new MetaProteomics center houses a cell culture lab, a plant and food chemistry lab, a radiochemical analysis lab, an analytical instrument lab and a molecular biology lab. The goal of these labs is to develop unique food ingredient extracts that are chemically characterized, isolate individual bioactive molecules from these extracts and then test them for their ability to modify cellular function related to various disease processes.
